Day 16 Least favorite movie.

Ah, a difficult one.

I didn't like the werewolf-sequence in PoA. As one of the flist said: Gollum with hair. But that scene did have the moment where Hermione sees herself (in the time-turner sequel) and says: "Is that what I look like from behind?!" Never mind gender issues, it is so what a young girl (and many an older woman, too) would say.

Didn't like the ball in GoF either, or the dreadfully boring game of Chase-the-Dragon. But at least the ball scene had Maggie Smith.

Basically, whenever the director, no doubt for reasons of his own, decides to deviate completely from the books, I dislike it intensely. It never adds something in terms of character development of storyline. It's always just for a quick laugh, or a good visual.

Therefore, the film I dislike most is Halfblood Prince.
I hate the train station bit. Shows us that Harry can pull without the 'boy-who-lived' magic. Yeah. Good for him. But for that, they cut those two great, parallel Dumbledore lines: "Nothing will happen. I'm with you, Harry," at the beginning, and "I'm not afraid, you're with me," at the end. And that is, in my opinion, essential both for Harry's development as for the change (and culmination) of Dumbledore's mentor role.

I was quite bored by 'the making of crop circles'. Then again, insomnia is a serious problem; anything that sends people to sleep without taking Temazepam can be seen as an improvement of the human condition.

And while I loved the interior of The Burrow (they do interiors exceedingly well; I loved Spinner's End, too) and the attention to detail (did you notice the icing on the Christmas cake? now that's what I call ice-ing) I fail to see why the Burrow had to be burned down.

The one additional McG/Snape moment wanted us to believe that these professors would stand and stare while a brace of hormone-ridden adolescent harpies fights in the sick ward. Still, that scene inspired kellychambliss to write Not just any. It contains Snapely lines such as "Precious Won-won has already been shown more concern than his general Weasley-ness warrants. So we did not suffer in vain.

But then, after giving Neville a walk-on part as a waiter (oh, all right the shoes-scene was fun), they went and cut the "Don't call me a coward!" line. In a film that is called The Half Blood Prince.

All right, I'll explain it one more time. The Half Blood Prince, Mr. Yates, (don't fidget and don't doodle a Trio-scene, or it'll be detention for you) IS Severus Snape. So in this film, he's IMPORTANT. Write that down.
