Even though my beloved Older Ladies have hardly graced Beholder with their presence yet, the fest has yielded a few treasures.
There's an excellent Millicent/Marietta story. Both characters are sadly one-dimensional in canon, and this story is why I love Beholder so much. Both girls become three-dimensional, and their budding relationship is beautifully and realistically depicted. A Cliff in July.
I also love good Filius-fic, and this one doesn't just have a great Filius, but an excellent Griphook, too. Hard, unflinching, hardly a character to warm to, yet one sees what Filius sees in him. And the way the Goblin language is used as a metaphor for Filius's ancestry - barely acknowledged, almost-forgotten, yet part of his blood - is brilliant. A Tryptich on the Sword of Ragnuk
And last but certainly not least the story that is my absolute favourite so far: The Muggles Have a Word for Them. But the witches have a better word, and the Fat Lady and her friend Violet will tell you all about it. Period characterization, femmeslash romance, delightful butches, a coven in full swing, and the full and official canon for two Hogwarts portraits. If you only read one Beholder story this year, read this one.
