What a wonderful, glorious, darling, fanfic-inspiring, amazing peach of a moment. And then it ended on that stunning, beautifully-done, had-me-gasping-out-loud second.

Series 3 are worth buying. Just for that.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Which one you ask? Then you haven't seen it yet. The 37th minute moment.

Also, dear Mr Fellowes, I'm married to a man, I know all about what they have under their full evening dress. Could I please be spared the view of the Lordly (lack of) pectorals?

And the notion that married people may share the same bed and may find that experience not entirely unpleasant is not the highly-exciting look-what-a-daring-writer-I-am material you seem to think it is.

In fact, Matthew the Magnificent Lover is what I'd call a major spoiler of what is otherwise a very interesting new series.

Wow, is this this REAL RealSnape? You never sound this enthusiastic (except about good fic)! I've got to figure out how to download this series! M.

Fic-inspiring, indeed. Helped along considerably by very fine acting on both fronts.

There were a few other such moments as well, I thought.

Thus far, shaping up to be better than Season Two, methinks. The Matthew-Mary sexual relationship is by far the least interesting aspect of the show.

There certainly were great moments. I loved the Carson-Hughes scene where he tells her that he's on her side, too.

And the Mrs Patmore-Hughes bonding.

Also, I rather liked Matthew when he fully accepted Tom as his brother-in-law. He's just such an insufferable prig, Matthew is.

Ok, I have to confess that the famous moment didn't work too well for me, I'm afraid - but I have the same issue with Martha as I have with Isobel: I don't like the actresses much, and I find their roles too overdrawn to really enjoy their putting sticks in the wheel of the Grantham family. But I really love this season, even if Mary and Matthew still figure prominently *g*, and am very eager for each new episode. With 01 and 02, I've waited until the DVD came out, but I can't this time ;o). Just hope I'll find a stream of tonight's episode somewhere...

I have looked into DA fanfiction lately, but so far I'm rather disappointed. Either it's Mary/Matthew (ew) or it's some modern AU where the characters are taken completely out of their surroundings... clear question of "what's the point" from my POV.

Knew you'd love it!

[livejournal.com profile] squibstress is right -- Season 3 so far is so much better than soapy, emo, badly-plotted Season 2. Let's hope they can keep it up.

I read an hilarious review of Episode 2 where the writer comments on Matthew's embarrassment that Anna should see him in Mary's bed. The reviewer said something to the effect of, "But Anna remains cheerful and sunny partly because it's a personal maid's duty to be unflappable and partly because she's so glad that she doesn't have to haul this one out of bed by his ankles and stuff his body in a closet."

I don't care about Matthew at all! And he's also acting veeeery boringly about the matter of Swire's legacy (get a grip and save Downton, Matthew - or don't complain if there's a hole in your evening suit!)

But MAGGIE SMITH, ladies. The moment she wakes up from her nap and understands there's Shirley McLaine singing next to her. In my opinion, it was one of the best moment of the entire show.

All my hopes are in Edith, now - I stopped caring about Mr. Bates a long time ago.

It's much better plotted, true. And there will be a stream soon enough, then we both get to enjoy episode 3.

That assessment of Fellowes's is a scream. And he's right, too, of course.

I absolutely loved that moment, too. The way Maggie Smith looks at McLaine. And the handkiss! Glorious.

Ahhhh, what a lovely moment. Sometimes I wonder why I watch television (I have a number of shows for which I am mostly apathetic about most characters/situations/drama) and then moments like that arise and I absolutely remember.

It was wonderful! (And the first time I watched it, I thought Violet was only pretending to sleep--as a subtle statement of the party, you know. Some Slytherin 'sleep'. I still can't entirely tell when I rewatch whether she's actually snoozing [difficult to tell such things] or playing up her disdain for the changing times and American party.)

I wondered whether she was really asleep or just terribly bored, too.
