As I said in a recent post I'm planning on keeping a photo journal, so here are Week 1's photos:

FutureLearn

Italian for Beginners (Part 2 & Part 3)  (Open University)  I'm definitely learning something.  If I really worked at it I'd learn more, but learning lots of vocabulary no longer appeals, so I'm working on the general repetition basis and some of it is going in.

Film Audience & Spectator Experience  (Film Distributors' Association)  I don't go to the cinema very often, although this year I have seen 'Conclave' and 'Mr Burton', but nevertheless this is a well-presented course, which I enjoyed doing and from which I learnt a little.  It's also improved by having the main tutor responding to comments.

OpenLearn

Transport & Sustainability
A Level 2 science course, which I was delighted to be able to follow and do the calculations.  An interesting look at different forms of transport and their relative sustainability, including being realistic about the current greener options.

Basic Science: Understanding Numbers
Continuing with the Maths theme.  Quite interesting, but covers a lot of the ground I've done previously.  I'm now looking at taking some Level 2 Maths courses, which should require rather more mental input, which is one of the reasons for my taking courses!

Understanding Autism
Another badged course.  Well worth doing.  Although I've had contact with people with autism and their needs before, I felt the course taught me a number of things.  Within a church setting, it doesn't hurt to be aware of needs and be as accommodating as possible.

weird power outage, and knee update

We had a *weird* power outage today: most but not all of the apartment lost power. Mercifully, we did not lose power to the study, where I've been sitting quietly in the air conditioning all day (the high was 35C/95F). Our first thought was that something weird had happened to our apartment's power. Cattitude spent some time on the phone with the management company, which sent a technician. The technician looked things over and told us to call Eversource.

Some piece of their equipment broke, leaving 37 customers without power, according to the outage map, including us and our upstairs neighbors who also had power in part of each apartment. It took them several hours to fix, but fortunately we got our lights back before it was entirely dark out. The oddest-feeling bit of this was realizing that I could plug my phone in to charge, in the middle of a power outage.

I have been doing almost nothing today, to avoid straining my knee*. It's feel better now than last night, but still not great, and I'm having trouble using the quad cane correctly: even moving slowly, my foot and the cane are landing with one an inch or so ahead of the other (sometimes the foot is forward, sometimes it's behind). Tomorrow is supposed to be a lot cooler, but I'm still planning to stay home, and hopefully do some stretching.

* Yes, I buried the lede in yesterday's post, because the googly-eyed train was more interesting.

Cloudward, Ho! is the newest Dimension 20 campaign of actual-play D&D with its classic cast of comedy improvisers. This one is an aeronautical adventure set in a steampunk universe, about a motley crew who set out on a quest in search of a lost continent and the expedition that disappeared before them. The first episode just came out yesterday, and I really enjoyed it!

Some Notes About the Premise (Moderate Spoilers) )
I'm looking forward to seeing where the campaign goes from here! Anyone else watching or planning to watch?
