Another Quick Rec
Jul. 23rd, 2012 02:40 pmStill catching up on
hp_friendship, and today I found another totally surprising and marvellous read. It's the Dudley / host of others story. You'll find it here, The Road to Roundabout. As it is 17K it made me extend my luncheon break by half an hour. I'm rushing back to the day-job, now, but do hop over and try it.
A must-read for everyone who loves the English landscape, a feast of voices, from retired army officers to simple country folks, a host of canon-nudges and cameos.
And a narrator whose style beautifully matches their subject. It's rare one sees such a balance between form and content. Proulx's The Shipping News has it; P.D. James's The Murder Room has it, as well. And this author should write pro-fic, too.
